Credit File Corrections is a service of Madgett Law, LLC, a Minnesota law firm. Reading this site, downloading a template, or using the letter builder is general information about federal credit-reporting law — it is not legal advice about your situation and does not create an attorney-client relationship. This is attorney advertising.

What Credit File Corrections is

A free website that helps you organize a credit report problem: understand the process, write down what is wrong, produce your own dispute letters, and keep track of what happens. It is a service of Madgett Law, LLC, a Minnesota law firm, and is written by David J.S. Madgett, Minnesota Bar No. 390494. This is attorney advertising.

What it is not

Reading this site does not create an attorney-client relationship

Nothing you read, generate, or download here creates an attorney-client relationship. Using the letter builder does not, and downloading a template does not. You do not become a client, and Madgett Law, LLC does not represent you, unless and until we both sign a written agreement.

The case review request is different, and this is the part that changed in September 2026. If you send us information through that form you become a prospective client. We will keep what you send confidential under our professional obligations to prospective clients, whether or not we take your case. That duty is not the same thing as the attorney-client privilege, which generally applies to communications inside an attorney-client relationship. We may already represent someone whose interests are adverse to yours, and we may have to decline for that or for other reasons.

We make no promises about outcomes

We do not guarantee, and cannot guarantee, that any item will be deleted or corrected, that your credit score will improve, that a dispute will succeed, that anyone will owe you money, or that we will take your case. No two credit files are alike, and nothing described on this site predicts what would happen in yours. Any service that promises those things is making a claim it cannot keep.

Nothing goes anywhere unless you send it

Reading these pages, using the letter builder, and downloading templates transmit nothing. The letter builder runs entirely in your browser and we never receive what you type into it — there is no upload, no autosave, and no account. Generating or downloading anything does not begin any legal or statutory process, does not preserve any deadline, and does not put your situation in front of a lawyer.

The only thing that sends information anywhere is the case review request, which you have to go to and fill out yourself.

About the case review

Anything you send through this site comes to Madgett Law, LLC. If you choose to request a review:

We do not tell you that this firm is the best choice, the necessary choice, or the right choice for you. It is one option. You are free to take your documents to any lawyer, and free to take them to none — the Minnesota State Bar Association runs a lawyer referral service, and legal aid organizations serve people who meet their income guidelines.

Madgett Law, LLC · IDS Center, 80 South 8th Street, Suite 1650, Minneapolis, MN 55402 · 612-470-6529 · [email protected]. David J.S. Madgett is licensed to practice in Minnesota only and is responsible for the content of this site.

Money

Every tool on this site is free. There is no paid tier, no subscription, no upsell, and nothing is gated behind an email address. The firm receives no commission, affiliate revenue, or other payment from any credit monitoring provider or from any other company mentioned here, and does not sell or share your information for advertising. What the firm sells is legal representation — only if you ask for it, only if we agree to take your case, and on fee terms set out in a written agreement before any work starts.

Where this is available

The articles, guides and templates are for anyone: the Fair Credit Reporting Act is federal and works the same way in every state. A case review is available to Minnesota residents only, because David J.S. Madgett is licensed in Minnesota and nowhere else.

General information, not advice about your situation

Everything on this site is general information about how credit reporting and the dispute process work. It is not advice about your facts. We check the statutes we cite against the primary sources and date them — see editorial standards — but law changes, and the way a rule applies to one person is not the way it applies to another. Do not rely on this site as a substitute for advice about your own situation.
